<p><a title="" name="_ftn1" href="file://persls.stockage.univ-lorraine.fr/muller62/BDL/Transcriptions%20PVS%20-%20JMFeurtet/PV-BDL%201795-1805/258%203e%20registre.doc#_ftnref1">[1]</a> Mariano-Luis d'Urquijo (1768-1817), homme d'Etat espagnol, libéral inspiré des lectures des philosophes français et anglais, fut nommé ambassadeur à Londres en 1795, puis fut nommé ministre des Affaires étrangères en août 1798 grâce à la protection de la reine ; il favorisa notamment la marine en accord avec Mazarredo, abolit l'esclavage, introduisit la vaccine en Espagne et lutta contre les inquisiteurs ; traducteur de Buffon, il protégea Humboldt pour son voyage dans le Nouveau Monde. Disgracié par Godoy en décembre 1800</p>
